Repatriation of Aboriginal cultural material

Sacred smoking ceremonies have many purposes in Aboriginal culture, including cleansing an area or as a sign of respect for people past, present and future.

Last week, the Aboriginal community of Nambucca held an incredibly important repatriation ceremony including a procession, smoking, burial and dance. This ceremony was to mark the return of 750 year-old ancestral remains to country, under the Heritage NSW Repatriation Program.
