Review of Police Integrity Commission Act 1996

The Police Integrity Commission Act 1996 was reviewed to ensure ethical police conduct and governance in NSW.

About the Review

The PIC Act was enacted in response to recommendations in the Interim Report of the Royal Commission into the NSW Police Service published in February 1996 (Wood Interim Report).

The Review had 15 outcomes, this included:

  • the government considers that the policy objectives for the PIC Act remain valid
  • the government considers that, for the foreseeable future, those policy objectives are best served by maintaining the ICAC and the PIC as separate bodies
  • a permanent Commissioner of the PIC should be appointed as soon as practicable.
