Government

The New South Wales Parliament is bicameral, with two Houses of Parliament - the Lower House, known as the Legislative Assembly and the Upper House, known as the Legislative Council.

Under the federal Constitution, State Governments are responsible for powers not administered by the Federal Government. These include education, transport, law enforcement, health services and agriculture.

These responsibilities are controlled by departments. A Minister is accountable to Parliament for each department's functions and activities. Click here for a list of Current Ministers.

If you want to know more about how the government works, we have provided a brief explanation on this site. Further information can be obtained from the NSW Parliament website. The Governor represents the Crown in NSW and is appointed by the Sovereign on the Premier's recommendation.
