Want to make a difference in a remote community?
In 2006 the NSW Government announced a pilot package of incentives to attract and retain staff in crucial human services positions in a number of public sector agencies including areas such as health, justice and community services. The Pilot is being trialled in the remote communities of Bourke Brewarrina, Walgett and Wilcannia
The Remote Areas Attraction and Retention Pilot will contribute to the achievement of specific goals set out in the State Plan such as:
- building harmonious communities
- building healthy communities
- strengthening Aboriginal communities and
- early intervention to tackle disadvantage
The agencies participating in the Pilot are:
- Attorney General's Department (Courts only)
- Department of Ageing Disability and HomeCare
- Department of Arts Sports and Recreation
- Department of Community Services
- Department of Corrective Services
- Department of Housing
- Greater Western Area Health Service
Frequently Asked Questions about the Pilot
The Package
Attracting and retaining staff to human service positions is key to achieving these State Plan goals. The Government has developed an attractive incentive package which will apply on top of the existing Award conditions.
The Attraction Package applies to people who relocate to one of the selected towns under the Pilot where the position has been unsuccessfully advertised for at least 6 months. The Retention Package may apply to staff working in similar positions who have relocated in the previous 3 years.
The Attraction Package includes:
- $5000 (gross) cash bonus at the completion of each year of service
- assistance to rent a home
- a notebook computer and internet access
- additional professional development and training
- travel expenses in the case of family illness or death
