Education and Training
The NSW public sector is committed to building the capability of its workforce in order to deliver quality public services to the NSW community.
Investment in education and training is primarily a responsibility of individual government organisations. The Department of Premier and Cabinet offers programs in areas of sector wide strategic importance.
Entry Level Programs
Entry level programs combine work and training and open the door to a wide range of careers in the NSW public sector.
Multiple government organisations offer apprenticeships, traineeships, cadetships and graduate programs. Details can be found on the NSW Government web site and individual agency web sites. Current job vacancies can be found on www.jobs.nsw.gov.au (see Working for NSW).
The Department of Premier and Cabinet is responsible for two entry level programs:
Courses
The following education and training courses are for existing employees. Options range from short courses to university or vocational qualifications. All courses take account of the public sector environment.
Target groups vary. The TAFE Public Sector Training Program is for people working at low to middle levels, the Public Sector Management Program is for middle levels, and the remainder of courses are for senior to executive levels.
