Superannuation

Employees (including casual and temporary employees), are entitled to compulsory employer superannuation contributions. New employees are eligible to join First State Super or to arrange private superannuation scheme coverage.

Generally superannuation schemes include:

  • First State Super (FSS) - open to new employees from 1 July 1992
  • State Superannuation Scheme (SSS) - closed to new members on 1 July 1985
  • Police Superannuation Scheme (PSS) - closed on 1 April 1988
  • State Authorities Superannuation Scheme (SASS) - closed 19 December 1992
  • State Authorities Non-contributory Superannuation Scheme (SANCS) (otherwise known as the 3% or Basic Benefit Scheme) - closed 19 December 1992.
  • Local Government Superannuation Scheme (LGSS)
  • Energy Industry Superannuation Scheme (EISS).
